It is likely that, when you see cute little Poodles, you buy a puppy immediately giving no second thought to your actions. Remember that you are buying a creature that is going to spend the next 10 or 13 years close to you. Playing by ear is not a method that works when choosing a breeder. Before making a deal, try to educate yourself about the standard of the Poodle. Visit shows, and read various stuff concerning health problems it is prone to and personality features it is meant to display. Discuss the issue of grooming and dieting for Poodles with a breeder and examine pedigrees.

Poodles are prone to hereditary disorders. They are known to suffer from eye problems, bleedings, allergies, epilepsy, bloat, and other health problems. It is important to buy from certified breeding stock. Thus, the parent dogs should be tested for PRA (progressive retinal atrophy). This condition is incurable and occurs in all Poodles irrespectively of their size. There is such a phenomenon in Standard Poodles as distichiasis. This is when an extra row of lashed occurs in the dog. Entropion is an all-breed condition. This is very common and is usually handled by the means of surgery. Keep in mind that Poodles that come from responsible breeders have a less tendency to develop hereditary defects.
